Mission statementMarket Street Cycling Club is a community-based organization whose goal is to promote cycling as a means of transportation, recreation and sport in the Seattle area. We recognize that there are many barriers which prohibit certain segments of the local population from participating in both competitive and non-competitive cycling. Because we believe that the healthful benefits of cycling should be available to all, we promote cycling through volunteer work with youth and cycling advocacy groups. HistoryWhile it can be argued that history is more a reflection of the author than the actual events, here are a few critical events from our short, one year history. MSCC, like so many other great creations, started as a crazy vision dreamed up while high on lactic acid. On one cold, wet Northwest night in the Fall of '03, five of us packed into a tight, cold, spider-filled basement for a few hours of indoor training, known to the participants as BikeClub. We had such a great time, we decided that we should get a sponsor or two and start racing. Well, we made it through the first year, won a handful of races, saw and felt some nasty wrecks, and are ready for more! All along we've managed to have a good time while committing to the rigors of training and racing. So far, this approach has worked well. See you out on the road, on the run-ups, on the track, on the podium, or in the beer garden. |
