Mason Lake Road Race Series #3

20 March 2004

Today's race was great. Even with only 4 bunnies, the b-train presence was definitely felt by the rest of the posse! Surprisingly, the 4s and 5s were separated, and this time we didn't catch the 4s.

Kudos to Bman and A-train...5th or 6th and 10th? We'll see...

Mad props go out to Barry, a.k.a. The Preacher, for not wanting to kill me (and he had the opportunity to do so!). On the last lap, I wanted to make some progress up through the group by cruising up on the inside. Then some dude slammed the door shut! I was making some serious forward progress, so instead of checking my speed, I went cyclocrossing! I can't help but wonder what the group thought as I flew up to the front while riding in the gravel! Anyway, I figured with all that work, I may as well try to put the hurt on the group, so I yelled at Barry to come along on a Break! We were off the front like lightning, but the burst didn't last too long. Adam caught up to Barry and I just as we sat up to wait for the group.

I think that the chase that we propagated put the hurt on quite a few riders, and both Barry and I quickly recovered when the group caught us. So, with about three to four km left, I got caught in-between two riders that were both going for the same line. Needless to say, there wasn't enough room for the three of us, and I took the asphalt with the same fervor that Bush has for oil and power! Somehow I managed to do a quick summer-sault with a half twist. I popped up to my feet so fast that I was able to see the guy that was drafting me run over my rear wheel! Seriously, ksyriums are tough! He ran over my wheel so hard that he pinchflatted my tire, but my wheel is still true! The Fonds survived with some minor damage to the handlebars and a scratch to my shifter.

So directly behind the dude that ran over my bike was Barry. He barely missed hitting me.

So there you have it, another fun-filled morning on the Peninsula!
