UW/Byrne Specialty Gases Criterium

03 April 2005
Report by: Barry Campbell

It was another tough day, and 4 bunnies braved the conditions again to contest the first crit of the year, held at Seward Park. The Cat 4/5 race got underway brutally early, at 8am, especially considering that Daylight Savings Time had taken effect this morning, the temperature was in the mid-40s and it rained the entire race.

Brendan, Ben and Shawn started the Cat 4/5 race, but Shawn was soon forced to pull off with digestive issues. B and Ben sat in the whole race, as one brave rider soloed off the front for basically the entire race. He ended up winning, as the group was not interested in chasing him, but Ben once again worked the leadout to perfection, and Brendan easily cruised in 15m ahead of the field for 2nd. Excellent teamwork once again by our crit specialists.

Jeff entered the Masters C/D race, his first race ever. He's a brave soul, starting his racing career on a day like this. He stuck it out for about half the race before succumbing to the conditions and leg cramps, but it was good to see him out there learning what it's like.

Hopefully by now Ben has stopped shivering...
